I grew up in West Asheville and attended Erwin High School (class of 80). After graduating from Bob Jones University with a degree in Physical Education, I taught at private schools for 15 years before coming to Tuscola in 2001. I have taught Civics since coming to Tuscola, and I started teaching Southern Appalachian History in 2015. To quote Wardaddy in the movie Fury, “Best job I ever had!” I married my best friend Angie Yates (Mrs. Sugg at Junaluska Elementary) in 1990, and our daughter Madison graduated from Tuscola in 2016. My hobbies include playing and coaching soccer and fly fishing for trout. In 2021, I became the second person ever to catch trout in 1,000 different streams in North Carolina.
