Rising Senior Registration Announcement from Ms. Blackmon

Good evening families of current Tuscola Juniors! 

This is one of two calls you all will receive from me this evening.  However, this call applies only to current Juniors and contains information about some very important upcoming events for these parents/guardians and students. 

Counselors will be meeting with A Week Juniors tomorrow and B week Juniors next Tuesday by homeroom groups to complete 4-year planning and explain this year’s course registration process.  Remote students can join their counselors on Friday – February 19th during their 3rd period lunch via Google Classroom.  A schedule of these homeroom times will be posted in the Counseling Center’s Google Classroom.   ALL registration materials including graduation requirements, Career & College Promise courses, and applications required for certain courses are attached in the Google Registration Form that will be explained in these meetings..  Please review all course materials before making course selections for the upcoming year.  ALL needed materials are due by Monday – March 1st at 3pm.   

 “Rising Senior Night” will be on Wednesday –  02/17/21 at 6:30pm. This meeting will be held VIRTUALLY  through your child’s Counseling Center Google Classroom rather than face to face on campus..   You should look under  the Class of 2022 and the Classroom Code should be hgv6wmz if they have not already joined.  Once in the Google Classroom  – click on the meet link to join the event!  Please plan to virtually join this important information session. so you can learn how  to plan for your senior year starting now!  You will also receive important information about the upcoming ACT!

Speaking of the ACT, students should have received an email from Ms. Melville yesterday about the ACT test which will be given to all Juniors on campus on February 24th.  This day has been set aside as a “remote learning” day for all other students so that all Juniors in Haywood County will have the entire campus to take the ACT. The ACT is a requirement for all juniors in all North Carolina  High Schools.  Buses will run that morning for ANY juniors (A week, B week and Remote students who need transportation to and from campus)  Once on campus, students will be separated into testing rooms that meet Covid-19 regulations for spacing and based upon their current learning plan.  A week will be separated from B week students, and remote students will be separated into small groups away from the larger population of students.  Buses will depart THS at 1:30 that afternoon to return students home. 

With this date only 2 weeks away, Juniors will be getting daily ACT reminders and tips via email from me.  If your child is interested in additional ACT prep, please contact us for suggestions for at home preparation.  You cannot “study” for the ACT, but students certainly can learn about ACT questions and how to answer them through some key tips that we will encourage them to use. 

One last reminder on these key dates:

February 17 at 6:30 for Virtual “Rising Senior Parent Night” 

February 24th on Tuscola Campus for ALL current juniors to take the ACT.
