Greetings to both our returning Tuscola High School students, and those students who will be joining us for the first time for the 2021-2022 school year!
It is hard to believe that it is already August 2nd, and that the start of the school year is right around the corner!
The first bit of information I want to share with you is for our rising 9th graders, and any other students who will be new to Tuscola. We will hold Orientation for new students on Wednesday, August 11th in two sessions. Students with last names A-L will have orientation from 8:30-10:30 that morning. Students with last names M-Z will have orientation from 11:00-1:00 that afternoon. Parents are asked to attend if at all possible, as we are planning an information session for you while your students are getting their schedules, finding their classrooms, and learning more about the school. Parents will also need to accompany their students for chromebook pickup, which will take place at the end of orientation to sign the necessary paperwork. .
Rising Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors will be able to pick up their schedules and chromebooks on three possible times next week. Monday, August 9th from 2:00pm – 6:00 pm,
Wednesday, August 11th from 2:00pm-6:00pm, and Friday, August 13th from 8:30am-12:30pm.
Staff will be unavailable for schedule or chromebook pick up on Tuesday August 10th and Thursday August 12th due to staff professional development. A parent must accompany students in order to pick up Chromebooks, even if students are age 18 or older in order to sign the necessary paperwork.
As students come to campus, our spirit club will be selling School Spirit Passes for $30 apiece, which entitles students to a Tuscola T-shirt, and free admittance to any Tuscola High School HOME athletic events during the regular season. Passes will not apply to playoff games.
Parking passes will be sold to student drivers for $30 on August 9th, 10th, and 11th. Students who wish to purchase parking passes will need to check their school email for a message from Ms. Markley, which is coming this week, which will allow them to sign up for time to pick up parking passes, and all of the items that the students must bring in order to purchase a pass.
Yearbooks that were purchased last year are scheduled to arrive next week as well. Please keep an eye on our website for information as to when students may come to campus and pick up yearbooks.
The first student day is scheduled for August 16th. At this time. Haywood County Schools is NOT planning to offer a remote option for students. All students enrolled at Tuscola will be required to attend classes on campus. The Haywood County Board has also voted to allow masks for students and staff to be optional during the school day. We are planning to operate under these guidelines unless otherwise directed in the coming weeks.
We are so excited about the upcoming school year, and welcome all of you back to the hill, where we are “all in” for growth and excellence. I will follow up with another call to you next week with more information about the first days of school.
Thanks and have a great evening!
