Hazelwood Elementary School is fortunate to have a wonderful team of  Master Gardeners to come to the school in order to teach the first grade students about planting and harvesting vegetable and herb gardens.  First grade students have learned to work as a team while having fun learning about plants.  They have planted several raised beds that produce such items as onions and strawberries.  The most popular raised bed is called the Pizza Parlor Bed.  Different produce and herbs that are normally used in making pizzas, (such as basil or oregano), are being grown here in hopes of making pizzas with the ingredients once it is harvested.

Although it is the first grade students that work with the volunteers in the gardens, all Hazelwood's students are encouraged to visit and admire the gardens. On the weekends, everyone is invited to come to admire the gardens or even to help in the garden beds.
