 Girls on the Run

 Beginning in the spring, 3rd through 5th grade girls of Hazelwood Elementary School have the opportunity to join a non-competitive, non-profit program called Girls on the Run.  It is a wonderful program that teaches young girls about making healthily choices and promoting self image while encouraging physical activity.  Their mission is "to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living."

The team was led by three great leaders this year.  Diana Larson, (pictured), and Tonya Cable, both are parent volunteers, along with Natalie Boone, Hazelwood's Physical Education teacher.

Each year the program ends with the girls running a 5K, (3.1 mile), race to celebrate accomplishments the girls have made through Girls on the Run.  This year the event was held at the beautiful Biltmore Park.  There were 841 girls across WNC to run in the race this year.
