Good Evening Tuscola Families!
As you know, final exams start next Monday for A Week students. A complete listing of the exam schedule for A week and B week students is now available on the THS website. We are currently working on creating schedules for remote students to come in on December 21st and 22nd to test in very small groups. We will be emailing each remote student with their exam schedule in the coming week.
We understand that this has been a very unusual semester for all of our students, and we are encouraging students to come in and take exams as a way to IMPROVE their grades and demonstrate what they know. We certainly do not want exams this semester to bring down students’ grades who have performed well throughout the semester. Exams will count as 25% of the student’s final grade for a course. It is especially vital for students to test prior to the 22nd so that they can move on with their graduation requirements during 2nd semester.
Students will need to bring their charged Chromebook along with the charger each day to their exams. Students can take state exams only on school issued Chromebooks, so if a student has been using their own device during the semester, they will need to come by and check out a Chromebook prior to the start of their exams.
All A week students should be on campus all day next Monday and Tuesday. They will meet all four of their classes both days. They are testing 1st and 3rd block teacher made and North Carolina Final Exams on Monday and 2nd and 4th block teacher made and NC Final exams on Tuesday. They will be reviewing for exams in their other classes. This is also the case for B week students on the 14th and 15th.
On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday during both weeks, we will test End of Course exams in the mornings from 8:00-12:30, and CTE exams in the afternoons from 1:00-3:00. If a student does not have an EOC or CTE FInal exam, they are not required to be on campus during these testing periods. Once a testing period is over, if a student does not have an afternoon exam, they can be released at 12:30. Students: If you plan on checking out after your morning exam, you MUST turn in a note to the office by 7:55 am that day! It MUST have a phone number on it, as we will be verifying every, single check-out request. If a parent does not verify the note (doesn’t answer the phone) that morning, you will not be allowed to check-out! Once we verify your checkout, all students checking out will go to the gym, after testing, to receive your check-out slip.
Finally, you should be receiving a call from your child’s homeroom teacher at some point over the next several days about your plans for your child for 2nd semester. You will be asked if they are going to remain as a blended student, remain as a remote student, or change their current learning plan. Please note: There are several CTE courses this semester that have a large “hands on” component to them or have software that is only available on campus. Students who choose to be “remote only” will not be allowed to take these courses, and will be switched into a remote only option. If you have questions about these courses, and what the options are, please contact an administrator or your child’s counselor.
