ORIENTATION AND CHROMEBOOK DISTRIBUTION
On Monday, August 17th, virtual instruction will begin at Tuscola High School. In order for students to be successful in this stage of the school year, it is vitally important that they have certain tools prior to this date. This includes their school schedule, the log- in information for the Google Classroom and “Remind” communication tool for parents and students from each of each of their teachers, and their chromebook, which will be checked out to them and assigned for the remainder of the school year.
Next week, we will have three scheduled days dedicated to the distribution of these tools from our school, based upon students’ grade levels. Distribution times will be available from 10:30am-6:30pm on Monday, Thursday, and Friday of next week. Students will need to sign up for an allotted time on their assigned days, so that we can ensure that appropriate social distancing and COVID safety regulations are followed. All students and members of the family who come to school and go through the pick up stations will be required to go through a temperature check, and must wear a mask in the building. All rising Seniors, and rising Juniors whose last name begins with the letters A-K will be sent time slots for Monday, August 10th. Our rising freshmen will be sent time slots for Thursday, August 13th. Rising sophomores and juniors with last names starting with L-Z will be sent times for Friday, August 14th.
The first step in this process is for students to log into their Haywood County Schools’ email account. There, they will find a link to a sign up sheet with available time slots to come to school and gather this information.

We have a limited number of slots each hour, so to ensure that you are able to get your materials on the assigned day, please make sure you sign up for a time that you have transportation to and from school. The distribution process should take around 20-30 minutes.
Each students’ teachers may/may not be available for face to face interaction during these distribution times. However, each teacher will have an information sheet available at a subject area station for all students that will have contact information available for parents and students to use should you need to speak personally with the teacher regarding any concerns or questions.
If your child has not been assigned a Haywood County Schools email address, or if you are unable to get to school on the assigned days, please contact any of the four administrators via email as listed on our website. Tuscola will hold a more interactive, face to face, orientation once COVID restrictions are lifted, and students are allowed to return to classrooms for “in person” learning should they choose to do so. At that time, parents will be able to opt to continue virtual learning via an online platform. Until that time, students should plan to pick up and follow the schedule and teachers assigned to them by THS for virtual learning.
This is an uncertain time for all of us in education. At Tuscola, we aim to provide the most robust, engaging learning experience possible for all of our students while doing our very best to ensure their safety and the safety of our staff. Please allow us some grace and patience as we try to navigate a very different start to the school year.
