Greetings to all of you!
My name is Heather Blackmon, and I am thrilled to join you at Tuscola as your new principal for the upcoming school year.
I know there have been many questions surrounding the start of the year given the continued challenges of the COVID Pandemic. As the time draws closer, I wanted to share with you all of the information that IS clear at this time, and to reassure you that as we move closer to the start of school, I will continue to update you frequently with more details.
School will begin for students on August 17th at 8:00 in the morning. For at least the first month of school, we will, as we did in the spring, operate strictly through virtual learning for all classes.
Our goal is certainly to get students returned to campus for face to face, in person instruction as quickly as possible, as soon as we are certain that we can do so in a safe manner. However, I cannot emphasize enough that attendance and participation during virtual learning, grades on assignments, and student communication with teachers will ALL be a part of every school day, beginning on August 17.
Our great team of teachers, counselors, and administrators at Tuscola are working each day to develop a solid plan to ensure that ALL students have all the materials they need, including chromebooks, class schedules, as well as an opportunity to meet briefly with their teachers prior to the start of school. We are still in the process of setting dates, times and logistics for these events and as these plans evolve, we will share them with you as quickly as possible through evening calls and our Tuscola High School website.
Please bear with us as we continue to coordinate with our Superintendent Dr. Nolte and his staff at the district level, with Haywood Community College for our students who plan to take courses on campus through HCC, and with our own staff, as things continue to change rapidly in our community, and all those surrounding us.
What I can guarantee you, is that we will continue to make decisions that are in the best interest of the safety of our students and staff, while ensuring the best possible opportunities and choices for our families.
You will most likely hear from me frequently over the next few weeks, and I ask only for your trust and patience as we plan for a fantastic school year for our students and the Mountaineer Community.
I will be in touch later in the week! Please also continue to follow our THS Web Page for upcoming key dates and times as we continue to prepare for the start of the year!
Driver’s Education Update
Students who are awaiting information on Driver’s Education should know that our Driver’s Education instructors are doing their best to complete the driving portion for students who completed the classroom portion last Spring and were unable to finish the driving requirement.. We will post the opportunities for fall classes as soon as these students are able to finish their Spring driving portion.
